POSITION SUMMARY: Coordinates the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program and provides proactive patient care management for all pulmonary patients and cardiac or PREP patients with pulmonary issues or where indicated or assigned. Provides assistance to patients through evaluation and assessment, communication with third-party payors, care plan initiation, exercise prescription, and education. Coordinates the smoking cessation program and support group. Generates outcome data and reports for the Pulmonary Program including smoking cessation.



Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Successful completion of a CoARC accredited Respiratory Care Program required. Associates degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Registered Respiratory Therapist credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care. Valid New Mexico Respiratory Care Practitioner license. Must possess minimum certification of Basic Life Support through American Heart Association. ACLS required within 6 months of hire.

SKILLS:

  • Excellent reading, writing, and editing skills in English with strong educational presentation and organizational skills
  • Excellent interviewing skills and ability to assess patient needs
  • Competent computer skills for word processing, data collection and retrieval
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years experience in adolescent through geriatric age specific competency groups and one year experience in Pulmonary Rehabilitation preferred.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

-Responsible to: Director of Rehabilitation Services

ENVIRONMENT:

  • Bloodborne pathogen -- C
  • Routine exposure to aerosol or serum-borne pathogens.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Manual dexterity to provide respiratory therapy and operate equipment. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Moves or assists in moving (including but not limited to) lifting, pushing, transferring patients, equipment, supplies up to 50 pounds, frequent and prolonged standing and walking.
