The Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Boston Children's Hospital seeks qualified Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners to join our multidisciplinary team.

The Physician Assistant in the MSICU will be responsible for:

  • Providing care to infants, children, and adults with critical illness.
  • Collaborating with supervising physicians to conduct patient assessments and medical history, physical exams, and diagnose health and developmental problems.
  • Caring for patients with both acute and chronic disease by managing therapeutic regimens according to approved guidelines.
  • Participating in intensive care unit medical rounds, including the presentation of clinical information and the progress and management of patients.
  • Assisting with establishing a treatment plan and be included in all teaching activities conducted by the MSICU attending staff.
  • Participating in ongoing research in the MSICU, and offering expertise as a consultant and educator to other staff.

To qualify, you must have:

  • Graduated from an accredited Physician Assistant program, ideally with a minimum of 1 year of critical care experience
  • Solid medical knowledge base for critical care medicine.
  • Critical thinking skills and adaptability.
  • Excellent communication skills and work collaboratively with medical and surgical colleagues, staff and trainees.
  • MA PA license.

This Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for:

  • Providing care to infants, children, and families for management of critical illnesses.
  • Collaborating with the supervising physician.
  • Assessing the health status of individuals and families by obtaining a health and medical history, performing physical exams, and diagnosing health and developmental problems.
  • Participating with ongoing research in the Medical- Surgical ICU.
  • Offering expertise as consultant and educator to nursing staff.
  • Opportunities available for Full time, 40 hour/week position, day/evening/night and every 3rd weekend, 12 hour shifts, as well as straight nights with every 3rd weekend.

To qualify, you must have:

  • A minimum of 2 years inpatient pediatric experience - ICU or ED preferred
  • 2 years Pediatric NP experience preferred but would consider new graduate nurse practitioner with recent pediatric critical care RN experience.
  • Master's Degree with current NP license

The position requires day shifts, overnight coverage, weekends including up to every 3rd weekend, and some holidays.

Our 30-bed MSICU cares for medical and surgical patients ranging for newborn to early adult. The patient population is diverse with a variety of medical and surgical needs. Our newborn population is primarily patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia or need for extra corporal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) soon after birth. The children and early adults have a variety of diagnoses including but not limited to acute respiratory distress syndrome, multiple trauma, septic shock, congenital malformations, and liver, lung and kidney transplantation.
