OSITION SUMMARY: Coordinates, monitors, promotes and evaluates, in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and the Trauma Program Manager, the clinical aspects of the Trauma program to ensure quality trauma patient care is provided through performance improvement, practice and education in collaboration with the Trauma team to include medical and administrative directors. Responsible for the coordination of the Trauma Program Performance Improvement (PI) activities. Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, and champions a service of excellence. Serves as a liaison and consultant with interdisciplinary teams, both in the hospital and Northern New Mexico hospitals and prehospital agencies for optimal care of the trauma patient. Works collaboratively to ensure patient needs are met and appropriate care is coordinated across the continuum at the proper level of care. Successfully integrates a collaborative Care Team approach to care, that focuses on the patient, to assure discharge-planning needs are met, to achieve desired quality patient outcomes.

The Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Specialist (RN) reports to the Trauma Program Manager and is accountable for meeting the federal and state regulatory accrediting standards for performance improvement and patient safety for a Level III Trauma Program. The Trauma PI Specialist identifies and investigates all variances in patient clinical care and system issues with respect to adherence to CHRISTUS St. Vincent trauma protocols, guidelines, and algorithms. Collects, inputs and reviews data into the State trauma registry, with a high degree of validity and accuracy while ensuring a high level of patient confidentiality.

This position will maintain a collaborative working relationship with the Trauma Medical Director and all physicians in order to accurately identify all injuries and potential deviations from the standard of care across the continuum of care.



Requirements

INIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Graduate of a professional nursing school. BSN preferred.

CERTIFICATION: Current New Mexico RN license or current compact state license, BLS and TNCC are required. TNCC instructor status preferred. TOPIC required in the first six months and AAAM AIS coding course within 12 months of start date. ICD-10 coding for trauma required within 2 years.

SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated computer literacy in Microsoft Excel, Power Point
  • Solid communication skills
  • Organizational and teamwork abilities are required.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years working in an Emergency Department setting caring directly for trauma patient preferred but not required.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION: Responsible to the Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Medical Director and Trauma & Acute Care Surgery.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to handle emergency/crisis situations, prolonged, extensive or considerable sitting/standing/walking. Has knowledge of and uses good body mechanics.
